Where our numbers come from

Averta combines official and open datasets so traffic, audience and population figures can be checked. Every number on a listing says whether it is measured, reported by the seller or estimated, and how.

Datasets

How a roadside audience is estimated

  1. Traffic on the road. The Public Works Department’s traffic census counts average daily vehicles per road section. We place each section on the official road network and grow the count to today with the growth of licensed passenger cars (Eurostat).
  2. Vehicles facing the board. Half of the two-way count (one direction), adjusted for the season with the latest airport-passenger index for that month.
  3. People who can see it. Vehicles × average occupancy × a visibility factor (size, angle, distance from the road, lighting and speed); digital faces count their share of the loop. The result is always labelled estimated.

Live road speeds come from the Ministry of Transport’s Bluetooth detectors and are shown as measured on the map planner. Boards on roads without a published count use the traffic figure the seller reports, labelled reported.

Attribution

Contains data from the Public Works Department and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works (Cyprus National Access Point, CC BY 4.0), Eurostat (CC BY 4.0), the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT), the Kontur Population dataset (CC BY 4.0) and © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL 1.0). Income bands on the planner are modelled: no open small-area income data exists for Cyprus.
